Chair's Welcome

The Barossa Vintage Festival 2011

A very warm welcome to the 2011 Barossa Vintage Festival Program

Many thanks to our committee members for their contributions and hard work in the lead up to the Festival, along with Samantha Foreman, the Festival Manager, who brings extensive experience and a passion for all things Barossa, with the assistance of Kelly Rowett, our enthusiastic Events Coordinator, both of whom have put this program together.

This year, the Festival is being staged under the auspices of the Barossa Grape and Wine Association (BGWA). It is fitting that the BGWA should back the Festival; the event traditionally celebrates the end of vintage, something which is central to the culture and economy of the Barossa. We acknowledge the enthusiastic assistance given by the Board and Management of the Association.

Central to the Festival is our wine and food culture, and there is ample opportunity to participate in every aspect of that passion. The old favourites are back, including the Rare and Distinguished Barossa Wine Auction, Legends Behind the Barrel and the Distinguished Vineyards Tour. A highlight will also include our new Wine Education Workshops where you can create your own blend, learn tasting techniques, or gain insight into wine making methods.

Our opening event Carnival combines entertainment, food and wine for the whole family. Other highlights include the re-vamped Jazz In the Cellar, Big Bold and Brassy and our new Comedy in the Vines evening which stands to rouse a belly laugh or two. Expect to kick up your heels at Under a Hot Tin Roof or be treated to the best of the Barossa’s food and wine at the Grand Vintage Festival Ball.

For a friendly welcome and information, keep an eye out for the Young Ambassadors. These twelve young people have taken on the task of representing the Barossa and are there to help you.

Other recommendations for your itinerary include Heritage Hotspots recalling the early life of the people of the Barossa, Ziegenmarkt which recreates the traditional Barossa markets and the Festival Parade, a tradition for over 60 years which delights crowds lining the Barossa Valley Way.

All of these events are made possible by the efforts of over 1500 volunteers, Barossans who are proud to live here and invite you to share their pride. We welcome you and hope you can join us in celebrating the blend.
